Senior Electrical Engineer

This position is for an experienced, hands-on Senior Electrical Engineer to design, develop, modify, and evaluate electrical circuitry to be used on autonomous mobile robots in a fast and dynamic product development environment.
 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Developer of board and circuit designs incorporating specialized hardware devices such as CPUs, MCUs, FPGAs, cameras, analog and digital sensors, motor drivers, etc.
  • Independently responsible for all stages of electrical hardware design and development for complex products, solutions, and platforms, including design, validation, tooling, manufacturing, and testing
  • Create detailed electrical design package (including specifications, BOMs, schematics, wiring diagrams, analyses, etc.) to support design reviews, testing, certifications, and production
  • Review and evaluate designs and project activities for compliance with technology and development guidelines and standards to improve product quality
  • Manage and expand relationships with internal and outsourced development partners on electrical hardware design and development
  • Perform peer-review of associates’ designs, and provide guidance and mentoring to less-experienced staff members

Required Experience

  • Design and layout of high speed Single Board Computers
  • Using CAD tools and software packages such as OrCAD, Altium, Allegro, etc.
  • Experience with board designs that include high performance CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, Buck/Boost PWM controllers and microcontrollers
  • Design experience with high speed differential buses such as PCIE, SATA and USB3
  • Design experience with DDR3-4 Memory arrays
  • Evaluate and propose modeling and testing methodologies to validate component, circuit, and hardware designs and thermal/emissions management
  • Design for manufacturability and design for test experience

Requirements:

  • BS/MS degree in EE or equivalent
  • 8+ years hands-on experience designing hardware devices
  • Experience working with robots is a plus
  • Experience with power supply design, power inverters, power conditioning, and power distribution in a noisy environment
  • Familiar with signal integrity optimization techniques
  • Experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, soldering equipment, etc.
  • Understanding of analog signal conditioning and digital sensor processing; including IR, sonar, and MEMS sensors
  • Experience with serial communication busses including UART, USART, SPI, I2C, CAN bus, USB, Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience sourcing electronic components and working with domestic and international PCB manufacturing and assembly facilities
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment with high expectations
  • Self-motivated and self-starter, problem solver unfazed by ambiguity

Additional Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with wireless technology. (e.g WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G, LTE, etc.)
  • Experience with high-current brushed DC motors
  • Familiar with EMI mitigation and noise reduction techniques
  • Experience with various FCC, IEC, UL, CSA, ISO, CE, and ANSI standards

Travel: Limited domestic and international travel will be required (10% of time)
